CarCare is a monitoring and alert system for neutralizing distractions of a driver while driving. The system is based on cognitive behavioral principles of involuntary reflection in response to the animation of lights. The system tracks the driver’s eye movement using a camera, and displays an animation of LED lights that captures the attention of the driver and directs his gaze back to the road. The algorithm distinguishes between distractions and natural eye movements that do not interfere with safe driving.

How does it work?

The system consists of a Tobii Eyetracker 4c camera, a NodeMCU Wifi component and a DotStar LED strip located on the Dashboard. The algorithm identifies the location of the driver’s eyes, compares the data to the boundaries of a predefined field of vision, and analyzes the duration of the deviation. When a deviation is detected, an alert is sent and the lights are activated depending on the deviation, from right to left or from left to right towards the driver’s view back to the road.
